Set up a new diary
On first start of Myary you will be asked to create a new diary. Additional diaries can be created within the preferences under the tab General. To do so, click on the button "Add new diary" and give this new diary a name and select a location where to save your entries. Confirm these entries by clicking on the button "Save changes to diary". You can use this new diary immediately. On point "Selecting a diary" you'll learn how to select your diaries.

Selecting a diary
To select another diary than the current selected, click on the name of the current diary. You will presented with a popup-menu with all of your created diaries. To select a diary, just click on the name of the diary you want to select.

Adding an icon to a diary
To enhance to look of the popup-menu for selecting diaries, you have to go to the preferences under the tab General and select the diary you want to add an icon. Choose an image which should serve as an icon by clicking on the button "Choose Icon". Confirm the changes by clicking on the button "Save changes to diary". Please note, the images should be identical in height and width to get the best visual results.

Change the order of diaries
You can change the order of your diaries within the popup-menu within the preferences under the tab "General". You can change the order in the table by moving the diary-names using drag'n drop.

Calendar-Navigation
To navigate the calendar there are several buttons available. You can select specific days by direct clicking onto the day-numbers. Pressing the arrow-buttoms causes to select the next or previews month and by clicking on the button labeled with X will select the current day. Also you can click on the year- and month-names to select a specific date.

Calendar-Options
Within the preferences under the tab General you can determine which weekday should be used for the start of the week. Select the desired weekday and restart Myary so the changes can take effect.

Searching entries
To search for a specific entry, use the the search-bar located in the lower left of the main-window. Please note, this is a full-text search, so all entries containing the word you're searching for will be displayed.

Writing entries
Creating a new entry in your diary is really easy, just start writing into the textfield. Myary automatically saves the entry.

Deleting entries
To delete an existing entry, simple remove all text from this entry and Myary will automatically remove this entry. Please note, in Myary also invisible characters like spaces are considered as text, so make sure to select everything in the textfield before deleting.

Fullscreen-Mode and Distraction-Free-Mode
For writing without distractions Myary offers two different modes. In OSX Lion and OSX Mountain Lion the fullscreen-mode is offered, which enlarges the main-window to the size of the screen. You can enable the fullscreen-mode by clicking on the arrow symbol in the upper-right of the main-window or by selecting the menu-item View > Toggle Fullscreen.
Also a Disctraction-Free Mode is available to these versions of OSX and the Distraction-Free Mode can also be used in OSX Snow Leopard. This mode blends out the full background and some parts of Myary, so you can completely concentrate on your text. You can activate this mode by selecting the menu-item View > Distraction-Free Modus

Change the look of the Fullscreen-Mode
Within the preferences you can change the look of the Distraction-Free and the Fullscreen-Mode by selecting the tab Fullscreen. Next to changing the color of the background, you can also adjust height and width of the writing-field. Also instead of using an solid backgorund-color, you can also choose to set up a background-image instead.

Editing entries in an external editor
Myary offers the option to edit or write the current entry in an external editor. To do so, click in the pencil-icon in the upper-right of the main-window. By doing so, a list of possible editors will be presented and by clicking on one of them, the current entry will be opened in the selected editor, so you can start to edit and write your entry. Don't forget to save your work before returning to Myary. Myary recognized the change and will reload the current entry with all the changes.

Change the look of the editor
For the text-writing-field Myary offers an extensive amount of preference-options. Within the preferences under the tab Editor, you can see all the available options. The writing-area will be adjusted after making a change, so you can see the changes immediately.

Change typography-behavior of editor
Next to the look of the writing-area, you can also set up the typography-behaviour. Within preferences select the tab Typography. Especially the auto-close behavior of braces and quote-symbols is helpful.

Markup-Formatting
Myary offers diverse shortcuts for some of the most important markup-commands of the the markup-languages supported by Myary. Use the menu-item Edit > Markup-Commands > Markup-Languages to select your desired markup-language. Myary supports Markdown, Wikitext, BBCode, Textile and Smark. In this menu-area you also find the commands to set headlines, bold and italc to your text.

Adding external files to entries
You can add to each entry a set of external files. For doing so, click in the lower-right on the button with the files-symbol. This opens a side-bar where you can add new files by drag'n drop or by clicking on the button with the +-symbol. All added files will copied into a special folder for the current entry (the original-file remains). You can preview most of these files directly in Myary by selecting the specific file and clicking on the button with the eye-symbol. The button with the gearwheel-symbol offers options to view the selected file within Finder or open the file in the syste-set standard-application.

Embed images in entries
To link images into your entries, you need to add the specific images to the files-side-bar. From there you can add images by using drag'n drop to your entry. Myary automatically adds appropriate markup of the selected markup-language to embed the image which is needed to link to the image. If you export your entries later, the linked images will be embedded into the exported file in case the export-format supports embedded images.

Change the file-extension of entries
Within the preferences under the tab General you can set your own file-extension for your entries. Please note, even if you change the extension, there is no change in the format the files will be saved in, they still remain plain text-files. For example, if you change the extension to doc, it doesn't mean the files will be stored as Word-files.

Exporting entries
Myary offers an extensive export-manager to export your entries to the formats Word, RTF, RTFD, HTML, PDF and ePub-Ebook-Format. Select the menu-item File > Export Diary you can start the export-manager. If you set up your entries with markup, the export-manager can automatically convert your entries and you can add an own CSS-file too.

Notices
Notices are a quick way to collect smaller pieces of text without starting a new entry. To write notices Myary offers different options. Your collected notices you'll find below the calendar.

Creating notices within the application
Creating a notice directly in Myary can be done by pressing the +symbol in the lower left of the main-window.

Creating notices over the status-bar
A convenient option to write a notice without switching to Myary is to use the status-bar feature. Click on the icon in the status-bar and start writing your notice. Pressing Command+Enter you can save this notice without using your mouse.

Define shortcut for creating notices over the status-bar
Even more convenience offers the option to create a shortcut to open the status-bar-feature. Within the preferences under the tab General you can set your own shortcut for this feature. Please note, Myary cannot override system-wide shortcuts used by OSX. You can try out the shortcut immediately after you set it.

Creating a notice within a browser with a bookmarklet
Another option to create notices is to use the bookmarklet for browsers of Myary. You can get this bookmarklet from the Myary-product-page on http://www.xelaton.com. Using this bookmarklet is fairly easy, just select the text you want to set as a notice and click on the bookmarklet. The selected text and the url of the webpage will be sent to Myary.

Adding notices to entries
If you want to add a notice from your notice-collection to one of your entries you can do that easily. Select the notice you want and place it using drag'n drop into your entry.
