Working With Extractions
Creating an Extraction
For each movie in the Tray, you can create one or more extractions. Extractions are a portion of a movie that may be repurposed as an image, an image sequence, a contact sheet or another movie clip.
- Image Extractions create an image from a single movie frame.
- Image Sequence Extractions create 2 to 100 images from a selected interval within a movie.
- Contact Sheet Extractions create a PDF document containing 2 to 100 images from within a movie. These images are arrayed on the page in a grid of user specified dimensions.
- Clip Extractions create a new movie from some portion of the selected movie. The Clip can subsequently be exported in a variety of movie formats.
To create an extraction, do one of the following:
- Click the "Image", "Sequence", "Contact Sheet" or "Clip" item on the toolbar.
- Select the "Extractions > New Image", "Extractions > New Image Sequence", "Extractions > New Contact Sheet" or "Extractions > New Clip" option from the main menu.
To remove a selected extraction, press the delete key or click the "Extractions > Remove Extraction" option from the main menu.
Working With Extractions
The list of extractions for a movie are displayed to the left of the main window, next to the Tray. Extraction details are displayed on the right beneath the movie preview box. Each extraction has a label, generated by Deframe, that may be edited by the user. The label is used to construct a filename when exporting. The extraction is previewed in the center of the project window. For Image Sequence extraction previews, click the "Enlarge" button or double-clicking a particular image to display it using the entire preview area.
The scrub slider shows a single playhead for Image extractions. For other extraction types, the slider shows in-time and out-time handles.
The extraction details header text changes to reflect the extraction type. The two buttons next, to the right of the header, allow you to export an extraction and/or lock the extraction settings to prevent accidental changes.
Specifying Extraction Times
Dragging the scrub slider provides a method for getting the gross timing correct for your extractions. For finer control, double-click the playhead or either the in-time or the out-time handles. The time indicator will to turn red indicating Precise Timing Mode. If the scrub slider is showing both an in-time and out-time handle, the handle you clicked will turn red, the other handle will not.
To exit Precise Timing Mode, press the escape key
To navigate in Precise Time Mode, do one of the following:
- Press the left-arrow or right-arrow keys to move the selected time indicator one second forward or one second backward.
- Press Command-left-arrow or Command-right-arrow keys to move the selected time indicator forward or backward by a time period of approximately one frame.
Filtering and Sorting
To limit the items displayed in the extraction table, click the Filter button to the right of the tables header.
Extractions can be filtered by label, type and their starting time within the movie.
Extractions may also be sorted by type and start or finish time.
